Redundant Farm Buildings get £1.7m Refit

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Redundant farm buildings have been transformed into state-of-the-art eco offices after a 1.7m refit. Communications and events firm MotivAction moved into Widbury Barns outside Ware after a nine month revamp that has secured the future of the Grade II listed building.

Our brief was to design and install an energy efficient comfort cooling system to serve the newly constructed offices whilst keeping the number of outdoor units to a minimum. To allow independent metering in each zone we selected three Daikin VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) systems in the main barn and four split systems in the new extension and server room. This was all supported by detailed AutoCAD drawings at every step throughout the design process.

Installing air conditioning in a listed building is always a challenge and in this case we feel it has been successfully achieved. This is particularly evident with the exposed ducting on the first floor giving that contrasting industrial feel where old meets new.

”I would like to thank Blue Sky Air Conditioning for their contribution in the conversion of Widbury Farm Barns into commercial premises” Georgina Turner – Architect, The Morton Partnership.
